Asagi.Made in Japan (Kyoto). # Age: ~1970s. # Material: Whetstone. # Type: Finishing.There are scratches and chipping due to aged deterioration, please check with the photograph.The hardness of this grindstone is Lv4+/ 5. It is extremely stiff, and there is little sharpening juice.Smooth sharpening, strong abrasive power. This stone was used by a carpenter"s master who closed his business 5 years ago.It is suitable for final finishing of carpentry tools (chisel/planer) knife. The back side of the stone has been hand-lumbered (forged down) (10th photo)This method was done by skilled artisans to take advantage of the stone"s characteristics. This was a common method of formation in the Showa era (~1989), but today,more and more stones are being shaped by electric polishers.
